Sketch “Nest”
The origins of “Nest” are wall plugs and Krylov’s fables. These are seemingly simple, short pieces. Simple enough to be a little absurd; for the reader of today, at least. Most of the visual elements for the sketch were created experimenting without clear, pre-conceived limitations during rehearsals. Actors, objects, and puppets operate on the same level in this process, balancing the verge of theatrical illusion and absurdity. The associative imagery and contrastingly straightforward actions of the actors allow for unexpected twists and paradoxes. The subconscious ideological inspiration for this sketch is equal the current, opinion-filled environment.Having recently graduated from LMTA, the director of the sketch Motiejus Ivanauskas seems to have found himself in the creation of performances. After making his debut at the LMTA Balcony Theatre with “Freezing”, Motiejus went on to direct “Dialogues” at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre and tested his strength again in the visual theatre workshop Cosmos Theatre LAB 2019.
Vilnius Puppet Theatre “Lele
”Vilnius Puppet Theatre, the predecessor of today’s “Lele”, was established in 1958 by the puppeteer, actor and director Balys Lukosius. The famous Lithuanian puppeteer and stage designer Vitalijus Mazuras replaced him as the leader later on. His staged plays “Little Ash Duck”, “White Boy Nobody”, “The Lamb’s Dream”, “The Earth’s Daughter” and others resulted in the aesthetic revolution of the 1970-1980’s Eastern European puppet theatre art.
Famous Lithuanian poets Sigitas Geda and Marcelijus Martinaitis wrote the plays, with music composed by the most outstanding Lithuanian creators Feliksas Bajoras, Faustas Latenas, Algirdas Martinaitis and Vidmantas Bartulis. Today V.Mazuras’ traditions at “Lele” theatre are pursued by his own students, directors Rimas Driezis and Algirdas Mikutis.
Active theatre creators aim to keep the gate open to both the traditions of children’s puppet theatre and valuable trends of the modern theatre, with the goal to retain interest and demand from both the youngest audience and adults today. The theatre has been a participant at the festivals of the International Puppeteers Organisation UNIMA since 1996; the national centre of UNIMA operates at the theatre. “Lele” also contributes to the activities of the international organisation ASSITEJ.
