EU PROJECT: THE MAGIC OF THE BIG MARIONETTES IN PUBLIC SPACE

  • Age 3+
  • Location – At the main entrance of the Puppet Theater

On the first day of the festival, an enlarged puppet of Stasys Usinskas’ “Singer” will be unveiled at the entrance to the main Puppet Theatre, made by the masters of Kaunas Puppet Theatre according to old drawings and sketches. The figure was created using modern 3D modelling technologies, the materials used to make it are resistant to moisture and other environmental factors because puppet was designed for use in outdoor public spaces. The “Singer’s” clothing was based on suggestions made by children, gathered through various drawings, questionnaires and surveys. Visitors will have the opportunity to not only see the enormous puppet, but also to try to manage it themselves like real puppeteers.

The aim of this EU project “The Magic of the Giant Marionettes in Public Spaces” is to remove the boundaries between the theatre and the audience, to speak directly to them in puppet language, understood without the help of an interpreter. The project will revive the creative legacy of Usinskas, the creator of the Lithuanian professional puppet theatre and give the general public an opportunity to explore his remarkable achievements. A detailed exhibition of the creator’s works was opened on the eve of the festival at the National M.K. Ciurlionis Art Museum – we invite you to visit!
